Private John F. Chase Bedroom

Private John F. Chase’s title of Medal of Honor winner for uncommon valor is more common than his other moniker, the “Most Wounded Man in The Civil War.”  On Stevens’ Knoll, where the Maine battery’s enfilading fire into the charging Louisiana “Tigers” helped the Union maintain the fishhook position. Chase was hit with 48 pieces of shrapnel from an exploding shell and left for dead on the field.  Brought to the Lightner Farm, he was again left to die.  Despite his extensive injuries, he survived and lived a life of note.  47 patents; presenter at the Cyclorama; developer of Florida housing for veterans.

The Chase Room displays drawings of his patents, photographs of his cannons on Stevens’ Knoll, and visually images of his many wounds.   The queen-size Pencil Post bed beckons you.  The antique chair and ottoman or a rocking chair provides a choice of relaxing.  Of course, the Chase Room has an en suite bathroom. Library and modern amenities including air-conditioning, HDTV, wi-fi and USB-charging stations.
