Major Greenlief T. Stevens Bedroom

While many soldiers’ names are on statues or buildings on the Gettysburg battlefield, very few have the hallowed ground itself named for them. Originally known as McKnight’s Hill, Stevens’ Knoll, sandwiched between Cemetery Hill and Culp’s Hill, was named for Captain Greenlief Stevens of the 5th Maine Light Artillery.  On July 2nd, Stevens’ battery “poured a terrible fire of double canister” into the left flank of the advancing Confederate army, helping to turn back the attack.

While we are unsure in which room Captain Stevens convalesced during his 10-day stay at the Lightner Farmhouse, he could not have chosen a better room than the one that now bears his name.  With a fireplace, a private bath, and a pleasing décor, the room now speaks to rest and romance.  Modern amenities including air-conditioning, HDTV, wi-fi and USB-charging stations complete the room.
