George W. New, Surgeon Bedroom

The George W. New Room recognizes the extraordinary life of this 1st Corps surgeon.  In June 1861, Dr. New assists on the 1st of 50,000 Civil War amputations. In December 1861, he is court-martialed and dismissed from the Army.  By January 1862, he is reinstated after President Lincoln intercedes.  On July 1, 1863, as the 1st Corps troops retreated off Seminary Ridge, Dr. New raced into the night to locate a new hospital location and found the newly built Federal-style house of Isaac Lightner.

The calming nature of the Room belies the turbulent career of the person for which it is named.  Cozy. Restive. Restorative.  The queen brass bed inviting. When combined with modern amenities, including air-conditioning, HDTV, wi-fi and USB-charging stations, you will be ready for a good night’s sleep.
