Relic Hunting, Ghost Hunting and Meet Colonel Chamberlain

Although Dennis and I might be a bit prejudiced we feel the Lightner Farmhouse B&B is one of the most authentic and diverse of the historic properties in Gettysburg PA.  Authenticity comes from the careful restoration of the house in the 1960’s by Dr. Carroll Voss who brought back the beauty of the 1862 house rather than modernize it to mid century tastes by keeping the original doors, floors, windows, and woodwork trims.  We are likewise proud of the many resource materials in our library and of the knowledge we have accumulated in our 20 years of innkeeping in the Gettysburg area.

The diversity of our programs offered here gives nearly everyone a reason to come visit for a few days.  History talks in the morning preceding breakfast (or during breakfast depending on the day and the guests’ preference) are offered several times a week and Eileen is always available to answer questions.  Our many years in the community gives us the experience to tailor your visit to your interests and time constraints.  Just ask us!!

Unique upcoming weekend opportunities include:

August 19-21.  Relic Hunting with Roman Murray who has already determined where an 1863 soldier’s campsite was located on our property and who has uncovered dozens of Civil War artifacts.  Bring your own metal detector, borrow one or rent one in town.  The cost is $25 plus room rental fee and only two rooms remain open for the weekend.

September 9-11.  Paranormal Weekend at Lightner.   Join Stewart Cornelius of “History and Haunts” in an informative and hopefully exciting weekend.  Stewart will meet the guests on Friday evening for an introductory talk and Saturday night will include a history tour of town followed by Paranormal Investigation.  Stewart is expecting to have some outside experts join him. The cost is $40 per person plus the room rental fee. Only 2 rooms remain available for this event.

November 11-13.  Meet Colonel Joshua and Mrs. Fannie Chamberlain for lunch at the Dobbin House and a battlefield walk after lunch.  $40 per person, $30 for children.  Several rooms are available.

December 10-  Inns of the Gettysburg Area House Tour from noon until 5 PM. Tickets are complimentary to our guests.  At 7:30 Pm join us at Christ Lutheran Church for a special performance of Songs and Stories from a Civil War Hospital.  Or enjoy Dickens’ Christmas Carol at the historic Majestic Theater.  Don’t forget to allow some time for Christmas shopping at the Gettysburg Outlet Mall located just 1/2 mile from Lightner Farmhouse.

Hope you can join us for one or more of these events!!!  Phone Eileen at 717-337-9508 for more information on any of these event weekends or to set up your group event weekend.
