Things to Do

So Many Choices

Gettysburg is a central location for exploring south central Pennsylvania, Maryland and northern Virginia. Stay with us a week and you will tour the Gettysburg attractions plus have time to do several day trips to Harrisburg, Hershey, Lancaster, Antietam, Harpers Ferry and Washington DC.

4 days at the Lightner Farmhouse

Day One

Tour the National Military Park Visitor’s Center Museum just two miles from our B&B in the morning followed by a private tour of the battlefield in the afternoon with a Licensed Battlefield Guide. Enjoy dinner at the Dobbin House and take a Ghost Storytelling walk in town.

Day Two

Tour the Eisenhower Farm in the morning followed by lunch at a downtown Gettysburg restaurant and a tour of either the Shriver House, the Wills House or the Jenny Wade House. Spend some time in the boutique shops along Chambersburg, York and Baltimore Streets and possibly enjoy wine tasting at the downtown winery shops. Finish your day with a Paranormal Investigation with Betty Roche at the Lightner Farmhouse and beyond.

Day Three

Choose from either a tour of the many area antique malls, a visit to the three area wineries or an agri-tourism visit to the orchards and farm stands of the area. Nearby New Oxford is home to over 200 antique shops. The wineries are close to the Historic Cashtown Inn which would be a terrific lunch stop. The Round Barn is one of the outlets for local produce. In addition to these ideas, the third day could take advantage of either a horseback or a segway battlefield tour.

Day Four

Venture a bit further to Hershey for the story of the chocolate empire that was built there or to Lancaster County for Amish produce and culture or to Antietam and Harpers Ferry for more Civil War history.

“Eileen and Dennis were polite and attentive host. They provided information about what was available to do in and around Gettysburg. The food was well prepared and presented and always delicious. I would highly recommend Lightner Farmhouse if you are looking for a peaceful retreat during your stay in Gettysburg .”
